How often have you regretted about your actions in the past?
I believe most of you will either reply ‘very often’ or will start recalling those priceless seconds which just got drained out of your life. Be it at a personal or professional front, time is the most indispensable resource to boost your productivity. Ironically, we are the digitally equipped generation with digital time machines accessorizing our wrist but our combat with time management is still on like the ancestral wars pioneering from era to era.
We have very well absorbed the panoramic approach of digital technology but in this trend, the constant factor of time somewhat lost its significance. We have forgotten that in spite of the best of technological aids with best of its reach and accessibility, our time machine cannot run beyond 24 hours and body cannot work productively beyond 5-6 hours.
So why not optimize the best of what is there with us, and churn out enough of optimized results to be shared across all the hours of the day. But how to follow this approach is the matter of great concern. How to multiply our time, so that we have more space for free living?
In the provided video by Brendon, he has highlighted the four big rules towards time management, which ultimately answers an individual’s query to what he/she wants from life? His four big rules are to make you answer the four questions:
- What kind of person do you want to be?
- What are your relationship goals?
- What are your career growth goals and what makes you an exceptional?
- What are your 30 days goals, weekly goals or timely goals?
However, I personally felt that these four categories were discussed at the macro level by Brendon, and therefore I have sub-categorized the time management skills in several below mentioned categories.
- MAKE YOUR GOALS CLEAR
Make your goals very clear. Transparent view of the destination makes it easier for an individual to prioritise his actions and thus saves his time which otherwise gets drained in executing the unnecessary tasks.
- TO DO LIST
Schedule your activities with the help of a to-do list. A systematically outlined to do list enhances the productivity by approximately 20 percent thereby saving your precious time.
All the activities on your to do list cannot be assigned the same weight age. Therefore you may classify them under the heads A, B and C where A will be the most prioritised task. A simplified approach to any work enhances the overall productivity in less time.
Once your to do list is set and the tasks are prioritised, you need to schedule your routine, so as to execute the activities as per their importance. Always make a schedule flexible enough to combat any contingencies in future.
- SAY NO TO PROCRASTINATION
Every time is the right time to do the right task in right manner. No time unit comes with the label of specific activities to be executed in that specific time frame. You need to turn challenges into opportunities than waiting for the opportunities to knock at your door. Never ever procrastinate.
- TIME LOG
If you are amongst the one, who keeps a daily track record of their expenses, then this point will be easier for you to understand. Maintain a time log which communicates, how much time each of your activity takes so that you can plan your future accordingly. BY this step, one can also identify if there is wastage of time involved in any task.
- BREAKS ARE ESSENTIAL
Breaks are an essential part of your time table because they rejuvenate our energy level.
Its not easy to execute all the activities all by one self. For speedy operations, helping hands are essential.
- LEARN TO SAY NO
As discussed earlier, time is constant while executing any task. Therefore, you have to say no sometimes. Or else at the end, you will be burdened with multiple unfinished tasks.
There had always been one thing in common amongst all great people of their age. They all were immaculate time managers who followed the above-mentioned essentials as a whole. And this is the reason why most of the blogs on time management begin and end with quotes from one of those eminent beings.
