Advice from the 30 year old me to the 20year old me
I turned 30 just a few weeks ago and I began to realize that I wish I could suggest myself a few things as a 20 year old. As a twenty year old, I was so confused and I did not know what was the plan? What the future holds? And who can I be? So, I took some time for myself and decided to advise the 20 year old me.
As you will turn older, you will have everything but there is only one thing you will be struggling to find and that is time. Time is the most valuable thing, and you need to respect it. Do not waste your time on people who do not matter. Do not go behind lovers who you know are cheating on you. Use your time wisely. Make something out of yourself while you can.
I have a tip and if you follow it, I assure you that you will go a long way. Maintain a Journal, and write down the things you need to do and make sure you complete them on a daily basis.
The more you travel the more you will be open to new thoughts and ideas. You will learn a lot of things that probably you could have never learnt by just reading. You will start understanding that materialism is temporary, but experience is something that has a permanent mark on your memory. Well, I don’t know of other things, but travel is like a drug, a good drug, once you are hooked to eat you will learn the art of saving to splurge.
Travel will prepare you and teach you what is out there? You will discover yourself if you travel.
Reading will give you a new perspective. Reading will also make you intelligent and people would want to listen to you if you read. Knowledge is the only thing that nobody can take away from you. Read every day and everything you can get your hands on.
If you don’t make mistakes you will not learn. Mistakes will teach you life long lessons and it will also make you realize that you are stronger, much stronger than you think you are. Mistakes will put you in difficult situations. You will meet people who you can rely on. If you make mistakes these people will stand by your side and give you advice on how to move on. And moving on, my dear, is the one thing that you need to learn as soon a possible.
Work on your present
There is no point looking back how you were in the past and no point making dream castles about the future. You need to work for today, because, today is the only thing you need to control for a better tomorrow. Live every moment and cherish it.
There were many instances in my life where I was in dire need of money, but no one was ready to lend. It is always a smart thing to save and spend on the things that matter rather than just blowing all the money at once on the weekend. Shopping and buying materialistic things like I said, is temporary. Save to invest and spend on experiences that will last forever.
In the end, I want to say that these will be the major points that you need to remember, but the rest will fall in line when you make mistakes and learn from them. But, whatever the situation may be, be kind and move on. Remember, time heals everything and the best thing about time is that, it is not the same always.
